The Root of Redemption

Posted on Updated on

In general, I hear “redeem” and I think of redeeming my iTunes gift card, a coupon code, or a prize that I won.

In church, I hear, We are redeemed.

Redeem: to buy back, to get or win back, to free what distresses or harms, to free from captivity by payment of ransom, to change for the better, repair, restore.

Return to me, for I have redeemed you. Isaiah 44:22

God has bought us back from this crazy, troubled world. God has freed us from the harms and hurts we experience. God has freed us from our chains by the payment of His faultless Son’s death. God has changed us for the better. God has repaired our broken selves. God has restored us to who we were made to be: His beloved children.

Our Father is constantly asking us to return to Him because He has already redeemed us. He has already saved us. We have been compensated for. We are His.

I do not believe there is a more beautiful reminder than that.
